Wynn went as far as to partner with PokerStars, a popular foreign online poker site.Wynn pulled out of its partnership with PokerStars after the company was indicted for violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Wynn has, however, stayed the course on his commitment to lobbying for the federal online gambling laws to change in the US.Adelson, on the other hand, dealt a big blow to the future of the online industry last week when he said that he is opposed to regulation. Adelson claimed that he did not believe the proper technology was available to protect against underage gambling. Currently, there are no regulations in place to protect against either underage gambling, or bettors old enough to place wagers online.The shocking Adelson stance may have set back the industry several years. In the months since the indictment against PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker, and Absolute Poker, momentum has been building in Congress to change the current laws.That movement was dealt a blow first by the announcement that longtime online gambling supporter Representative Barney Frank was retiring and not seeking re-election, and now the Adelson stance. The eCommerce and online Gaming Regulation and Assurance body, known as eCOGRA, has released statistics for dispute resolution for the first half of 2011. eCOGRA has a good track record when it comes to settling player disputes or complaints against online casinos and other online gambling sites. It should be noted that eCOGRA can only settle disputes for those online gambling sites that hold the organizations Safe and Fair seal of approval. Statistics showed that the number of customer complaints in the first six months of 2011 was about 0.5% lower at eCOGRA accredited sites when compared with those sites that do not have eCOGRA accreditation. Of the valid complaints received by eCOGRA, most were resolved within a 72 hour time period. Complaints that are not valid include those that are lodged against online casinos and other online gambling sites that do that not have eCOGRA accreditation. Other complaints that are considered invalid are those that lack the necessary information to resolve the dispute and also those that lack relevance. Operators have responded in a fast and cooperative manner to those cases where I have requested information and explanations, and have been quick to respect my findings in each case,” said Tex Rees, the eCOGRA Fair Gaming Advocate. The total number of complaints received for the first half of 2011 totalled 475. Of those complaints, 57 were not directed at eCOGRA online casinos and other online gambling sites, and 60 of the complaints were irrelevant or did not have enough information. This left 358 complaints, making it an average of 13 complaints per month. Of the valid complaints that eCOGRA helped to resolve, 41% were regarding cash-in issues, 23% were about bonuses, and 21% were about players being locked out of their accounts. eCOGRA is a non-profit, independent body that was founded in 2003, and is now owned by its management team.
